On Saturday November. 8th, 2008 we were proud to present “Tao” the Great Horned Owl, educational ambassador for Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.

Accompanying Tao was handler, Lisa. Lisa provided detailed answers for the day’s presentation; such as where the Great Horned Owls have their ears. Do you know where their ears are?
The back of a “Great Horned Owl” is patterned similar to tree bark so that when they raise their ears vertically they can camouflage.
We learned many things at the presentation; one interesting fact was that an owl can rotate their entire head 360⁰ if starting from looking behind them; 180⁰ from front to back!

Owl’s puff out their throats and open their beaks panting, similar to dogs, when they get too hot. This helps them cool down.
From the Staff at Wild Birds Unlimited; Thank you for coming out! We hope you enjoyed visiting with Tao and Lisa!
If you missed this month’s presentation, be sure to check our website and watch for your Wild Birds Unlimited email for our next scheduled event.
